Adipurush Budget: Mythological action film

In 2023, a mythological action film called Adipurush, which translates to “First Man,”. Directed and co-written by Om Raut, the movie was produced by T-Series and Retrophiles. It starred actors like Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan, Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, and Devdutta Nage. The story draws inspiration from the Hindu epic Ramayana.

Adipurush’s journey began with its announcement in August 2020, followed by filming that started in February 2021 and wrapped up in November 2021, mainly in Mumbai. Ajay–Atul composed the film’s music. With a budget ranging from ₹500 crore to ₹700 crore, it’s listed among the most expensive Indian films.

However, when the movie released on June 16, 2023, it received negative reviews from critics and didn’t perform well at the box office.

Adipurush Plot Summary:

The story is set thousands of years ago and revolves around the rakshasa king of Lanka, Lankesh, who became invincible after obtaining a boon from Brahma, the god of creation. Meanwhile, in the kingdom of Ayodhya, King Dashratha exiles his son, Raghava, for 14 years to fulfill a promise to his wife, Kaikeyi. Raghava accepts the exile and heads to the forests of Panchavati with his wife, Janaki, and brother, Shesh.

The plot thickens when Lankesh’s sister, Shurpanakha, tries to seduce Raghava and harms Janaki. Lankesh then abducts Janaki, leading Raghava and Shesh to seek help from allies like Sugriva, Vibhishana, and others to rescue her. With the support of divine entities like Varuna, they build a bridge to Lanka and engage in a fierce battle against Lankesh’s forces.

In the end, Raghava defeats Lankesh, realizing that he can only be slain in a specific time frame. With Janaki freed and their exile complete, Raghava and his companions return to Ayodhya, where he is crowned king, and Janaki becomes his queen.

Prabhas, known for his roles in Telugu and Hindi films like Baahubali, has a huge fan base in both states.

Based on the epic Ramayana, Adipurush also stars Kriti Sanon, Sunny Singh, Saif Ali Khan, Devdatta Nage, among others, and is produced by T-Series and Retrophiles.
